COUNCIL SUBMISSIONS EXTENDED TO THE 7TH OCTOBER

The Port Macquarie Hastings Council have launched a website where they have invited the community to make comment on 4 topics surrounding the erosion issues within Lake Cathie. These topics are:

  1. Preferred option within the Management Study
  2. Financial responsibility for coastal erosion
  3. Who would fund a voluntary purchase scheme
  4. Rating criteria for options

Not only can you vote on these options you can also provide honest comment and feedack to council on these issues.  It is very important that everyone logs into the following website:

www.pmhclistening.com.au/lakecathie

You will need to sign up, provide a user name, email address &  password, and once this has been accepted you will be free to make comments as and when you want. We encourage all who visit the Council’s website to make comment so the message is loud and clear.

Today we started the media blitz with an article & photos going into the Port News, as well a letter to the editor. I think that the time has come for all of us to now start sending in letters to the editor to keep the momentum moving forward. Even if the letter just asks the question where will I live after Council has removed us from our properties. We need to push the social impact that this will have on us. Tell the council that all you have is your house and if you lose that you will have nothing. Tell them that tourism will be severely affected. Tell them that local business with suffer. Tell them about the severe stress that this whole Management Study has caused on you.  If there are enough of these sorts of stories it won’t be long before the wider community start to argue our case. Now is not the time to just hold back. To email a letter to the Port News:

editor.portnews@ruralpress.com

To email a letter to the Camden Haven Courier:

mail.camcourier@ruralpress.com

We will be doing a TV interview on Prime tomorrow so that should really start to raise the awareness even further.

On another note to give you some feedback on where we are up to in relation to the extension letters that have been sent to council we are up to approx 70 letters. With regards to the submission letters we have sent in approx 25. I think that the time has come for everyone that has sent in an extension letter to now concentrate on sending in the Submission letters.

Let’s try and aim for 150 letters to give us a chance. Pretty hard to ignore that volume of letters from Council’s perspective.

All the best with the submissions & letters to the paper.
